🎵 🎉 This is big! Senior Charrod McCullough is officially one of the 28 best small high school tenors in the ENTIRE STATE after earning a spot on the Texas All-State Small School Choir. He survived three elimination rounds, during which he had to learn new music in addition to his class music, perform it before a five-judge panel, and sight read acapella an excerpt of never-before-seen music — with only 30 SECONDS to prepare. 😳 Amazing! Charrod will perform with the Texas All-State Small School Choir in San Antonio on Feb. 10 at the Henry B. González Convention Center as part of the 2024 Texas Music Educators Association Clinic and Convention. 👏👏👏 We are #AHSproud #HornetNation

🐝👏👏 Look out, Austin! Here we come! Juniors Cooper Rich (left) and Isaac Hoch begin individual competition Wednesday in the UIL Congress State Tournament in Austin. Student congress attempts to replicate the workings of an official legislature within the confines of a competitive speech activity. The purpose of a student congress is to formulate legislative bills and resolutions, debate them, and adopt or reject them by casting votes. They are coached by Walter Willis and William Honea. We're proud of you, guys!

🎁 We were visited by the spirit of Christmas today in the form of First State Bank Assistant Marketing Coordinator Abra Roberts (center), who presented a check to the district for $1,500. First State Bank of Athens is the depository bank for AISD and has for many years graciously provided funds for campuses to use for holiday celebrations, such as staff meals. Also pictured are Deputy Superintendent Ginger Morrison (left) and Superintendent Dr. Janie Sims. Thank you, FSB!

🎅🎨 What talent we have at AISD! Central Athens Elementary fifth-grader Isabella Knigge is spreading holiday cheer with her fantastic artwork of Ol' Saint Nick. It was chosen from among several student submissions for the front of Athens ISD’s annual Christmas card. Isabella said she loves to draw and created her winning submission at home in half an hour. “Wow, you did that?” asked a classmate upon seeing the finished product. She did, indeed. Thanks, Isabella! #HornetNation

🔑 Officers with the Athens High School Key Club, a student service organization, spoke to members of the Kiwanis Club this week about their work in the community. They have also committed to assisting at the Athens Soup Kitchen for the remainder of the school year. Pictured are (from left) Key Club President Yasairi Medina, Vice President Zachary Carrizales, Treasurer Dustin Matlock, Secretary Baileigh Due and Club Sponsor and AHS Spanish Teacher Melissa Salinas.
