🎉 We did it again! The Athens High School Speech & Debate Team is headed to the National Speech & Debate Tournament once again. After a grueling three-day qualifying competition, Cooper Rich (left) and Isaac Hoch earned qualifying spots to the National Speech & Debate Association (NSDA) National Tournament to compete in Congressional Debate. The NSDA National Tournament hosts the best speech & debate competitors from all over the country, and students must qualify through their district tournament. This year's national tournament will be held June 16-21 in Des Moines, Iowa.

🗣️ Another strong showing for the AHS Speech & Debate team, this time at the recent Dallas Jesuit Preparatory Invitational Tournament. Debating against very large public and private schools, AHS stayed in the running. Juniors Cooper Rich and Isaac Hoch (far right) made it to the quarterfinal round, dropping a tough debate to a great team from Louisiana. The AHS team of junior Sebastian Campa (far left) and freshman Liam Tinsley finished prelims 2-2, narrowly missing elimination rounds. A strong finish, given this is only Sebastian and Liam's second tournament competing in the varsity division. They were awarded top novice team, and Liam was awarded Top Novice Speaker in the tournament! We're proud of you all for continuing Athens High School's tradition of excellence in speech and debate. #HornetNation

Students in Audrey Haley’s class at Central Athens Elementary create a fun chemical reaction by introducing yeast to a mix of hydrogen peroxide, dish soap and food coloring. The yeast breaks the hydrogen peroxide down into water and oxygen gas, with the escaping oxygen creating foamy bubbles. It’s a great way to learn science. Pictured (from left) are third-graders Jazmine Culver, Rosaisela Barcenas, Daleyza Rodriguez and Analyise Lee.

🎵 🎉 This is big! Senior Charrod McCullough is officially one of the 28 best small high school tenors in the ENTIRE STATE after earning a spot on the Texas All-State Small School Choir. He survived three elimination rounds, during which he had to learn new music in addition to his class music, perform it before a five-judge panel, and sight read acapella an excerpt of never-before-seen music — with only 30 SECONDS to prepare. 😳 Amazing! Charrod will perform with the Texas All-State Small School Choir in San Antonio on Feb. 10 at the Henry B. González Convention Center as part of the 2024 Texas Music Educators Association Clinic and Convention. 👏👏👏 We are #AHSproud #HornetNation

🎁 We were visited by the spirit of Christmas today in the form of First State Bank Assistant Marketing Coordinator Abra Roberts (center), who presented a check to the district for $1,500. First State Bank of Athens is the depository bank for AISD and has for many years graciously provided funds for campuses to use for holiday celebrations, such as staff meals.
