Maalik, who is in town for homecoming, signed this year as a free agent for the New York Jets and is on their injured reserve list. In 2016, he was a unanimous All-District fullback for Athens. As a linebacker for Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Maalik accounted for 23 tackles-for-loss over his final 22 collegiate appearances. In 11 games last fall, he led the team with 77 stops and 8 sacks. #HornetNation
The artificial turf was unrolled over the new Lady Hornets softball field this week. In about a month, the same will be done on the baseball field. “We’re making good progress,” said Barry Choate, executive director of maintenance and operations for AISD. “It’s going to be nice.” The new baseball/softball complex will include additional seating, with each field accommodating up to 1,000 spectators. Work should be completed well in advance of the start of the baseball/softball season in January. #HornetNation
