βοΈ Hornet Nation, after much consideration, weβve decided to cancel school tomorrow. These decisions are almost never easy to make. It involves a great deal of weather watching, communication with other superintendents, and a healthy dose of intuition. π₯Ά Our area happens to be teetering on the forecast dividing line between "this looks really bad" and "maybe it wonβt be too bad." While weβre pretty confident about the safety of morning travel, weβre much less confident about everyone getting home safely in the afternoon. Ultimately, thatβs not a risk weβre willing to take. π Calling off school is always a balancing act between keeping our students and staff safe, minimizing disruptions to learning, and understanding that last-minute changes can be tough on families. In the end, whether we get it right or wrong, the motivation is as simple as it is powerful: We want everyone to be as safe as possible. π Stay warm tomorrow, Hornets!

π Continuing our celebration of National Principals Month, today weβre honoring Central Athens Elementary Principal Claudia Godwin! Your leadership and passion for education inspire both students and staff. Thank you for fostering a supportive and vibrant learning environment, Mrs. Godwin! #HornetNation

π¨ Heads up, Hornets! The next varsity football home game is Oct. 11, when we plan to tie up the Brownsboro bears. Give yourself plenty of time to search your closets for the perfect tie-dye shirt to wear Oct. 10. π This Friday, the Hornets are on the road to Jacksonville, where we expect another win! #HornetNation

ππ₯ The annual Athens Homecoming Parade is this Thursday, Sept. 12! π₯πΊ The AHS band will kick off the excitement from the high school at 6 PM, marching the traditional route around the courthouse square and back. Be sure to find your perfect spot and get ready to cheer on the Hornets as they pass by! Letβs make this homecoming one to rememberβsee you there! ππ #SupportTheHornets #HornetNation #HomecomingParade

π Hornets, as our athletic season heats up, donβt forget that a clear bag policy is in place for all public events on AISD property. Diaper bags with infants or toddlers and bags with medical necessities are the only exceptions. Letβs ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone! #HornetNation

βΌοΈ IMPORTANT UPDATE: Hornet families, an area of Athens that includes the high school, Central Athens and South Athens elementary campuses has lost power. Oncor does not expect power to be restored before 7:30 at the earliest. Consequently, as much as we hate to, we have no choice but to cancel the meet the teacher and freshman orientation events at these campuses, and due to multiple scheduling conflicts will be unable to reschedule before school starts. Please rest assured, though, that we will take great care of your children on Monday.
π MEET THE TEACHER & FISH CAMP TONIGHT! π Elementary and AMS families, don't miss Meet the Teacher tonight! It's come-and-go from 5:30pm-7pm at Bel Air, Central and South. At Athens Middle School, it's running from 6pm-7:30pm. π π Fish Camp for incoming 9th graders and their parents/guardians starts at 6:30 tonight at AHS. π Orientation for incoming sixth-graders (parents will drop off/pick up) is tomorrow (Friday) from 9am-11am at AMS. βοΈ Classes start MONDAY! βοΈ We can't wait to see everyone and kick off an amazing school year! If your student hasn't yet been registered, be sure and call or visit their campus by today or Friday! #HornetNation

Great news, Hornet family! AISD will provide ALL school supplies for students up through 8th grade! (This does not include backpacks.) It's going to be a great year! π
