Athens ISD was honored to host Senator Robert Nichols on Sept. 11 for his biannual meeting with area superintendents. This event, part of Sen. Nichols' efforts to connect with public school leaders across Senate District 3, provides a platform to discuss key issues ahead of each legislative session. The meeting aimed to set the stage for the 89th State Legislature, beginning on January 14.
Sen. Nichols emphasized the importance of understanding the concerns of educators. "If we don't know the issues, we can't address them," he said. "We're here to listen." Joining the discussion were State Representatives Keith Bell and Cody Harris, who also engaged with the administrators.
“Being in a room with all three of the legislators who represent Athens ISD is an incredible opportunity," said AISD Superintendent Dr. Janie Sims, "especially when we were not only invited to share but felt heard.”
