Passers-by on Highway 19 South and FM 753 in Athens should be prepared to see dozens of law enforcement vehicles in front of Athens Middle School from Monday, June 10 through Friday, June 14. The middle school will host first responders from many local and regional law enforcement agencies as they train with the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) Center. The ALERRT program provides scenario-based training to prepare officers and other first responders to safely and effectively handle active-shooter and other violent threats. This could include simulated drills outside of the building on occasion. Please do not be alarmed if you see those drills in progress during training.
