Clay receives Gold Star awards

Athens ISD Communications Coordinator Toni Clay was awarded two Gold Star Awards for her outstanding work in education communications, including a Best of Category.

“We appreciate Toni representing Athens ISD so well,” said Deputy Superintendent Dr. Janie Sims. “We think she’s the best in every category.”

The awards were announced at the Texas School Public Relations Association’s annual Star Awards Celebration on Feb. 20 during the association's 57th annual conference. Over 1,400 entries were received for the program. Clay submitted two projects for consideration: the 2018 Hornet Buzz magazine (available at the district office on Hawn Street and at the Athens Chamber of Commerce) and the documentary-style video “Athens ISD: Our Hopes and Dreams,” which incorporates moving interviews with teachers, students and administrators. The video can be viewed on the district website’s homepage, www.athensisd.net, and its Facebook page.

Independent judges evaluate and score each entry based on its own merit, then review the highest-scoring Gold Star winners and select a Best of Category for each division. Both the Hornet Buzz print publication and the Hopes and Dreams video were selected as Gold Star winners in the “under 10,000 students” category, and the video was named Best of Category.
