Members of Athens High School’s HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) recently met with employees of the Henderson County District Attorney’s Office and Sheriff’s Department as part of a community awareness project. The students spoke on the preventable issue of Shaken Baby Syndrome and passed out purple ribbons to be worn for the month of February to spotlight that form of child abuse. Shaken Baby Syndrome usually occurs when a caregiver shakes a baby out of anger or frustration, typically when the baby will not stop crying. Permanent brain damage or death can result.
